Radiation Protection
To meet the needs of increasingly complex legislation for radiation protection, 25 years’ experience is combined with extensive specialist expertise and technologies – available on-site or at a client’s own location.
The Applus RTD Radiation Protection Department supports clients’ special project needs with a level three qualified team plus advanced technologies and solutions – available on-site or at a client’s own location. Services include contamination screening and radiation protection inspection, plus supervision of work carried out with radioactive substances.
Medical x-ray equipment and quality control activities employed, all benefit from global NDT & I experience. Advice on handling and disposal of materials or objects that are suspected of radioactivity can also be provided. Where radiation incidents occur, on-the-spot support is available together with safety and risk assessments for clients’ assets. Further resources include a radio nuclide laboratory (C-laboratory). This looks after preparation of samples for analysis and identification of radioactive materials and their concentration. It also takes care of cleaning and upgrading of Electron Capture Detectors (ECDs) and for cleaning contaminated sources and equipment. Temporary storage facilities for radioactive materials are also available.
In operation, and working together with the client, action plans, risk analyses and study projects can also be handled together with advice on obtaining licences plus purchase, implementation, commissioning and transportation of radioactive materials.
